Testing
Testing is a huge piece of figure skating.
I expect all of my Tier 1 and 2 skaters to be a gold medalist in at least one discipline.
I generally do not do in-person test sessions unless it works with the skating schedule. In person test sessions can get a little crazy with the timing of them, driving, extra coaching fees and just how much time it can take for one test.
If an in-person test session is something your skater needs to do, there will be a coaching fee.
Most skater’s do virtual tests currently. It allows us to get feedback from judges outside of Minnesota and gives us more flexibility with when a test needs to be taken. I also have found virtual testing is more skill-mastery orientated.
If your scheduled training time has three or more skaters in it, we cannot video your virtual test. Please find a slot in my drop-in schedule for me to video your test, or I will work with you to find a day that is not busy enough to video a test.
If another coach can video your test, that is also an option.
Please remember we have to uphold all of the virtual testing rules.
Skaters need to come to their virtual testing lesson with all of the paperwork ready to go. I will only be sending the parents the video to upload. Families need to bring the affidavit to their virtual testing time so that the proctor and myself can sign it!
As you move up the levels, the tests become harder and more time-intensive. If I tell you how much time it will take or that you need a training plan to take a Silver or higher test, it’s no joke. These tests can be challenging to pass, and the reason why only 2% of skaters pass their Gold freeskate test is that they were part of the 2% who did the right training for the test.
