Other Activities

  • When kids are younger, they often want to try a lot of sports, and that is fine and fun. It keeps them active and enjoying movement.

  • As skaters progress in skating, and they decide skating is “their” sport, another sport usually becomes secondary. It is a recreational sport or skater’s do their secondary sport in the off season.

  • Be careful with other sports~ it needs to work well with your skating, and it should also not cause you to sustain more injuries. You also need to make sure you have adequate recovery time from your other sport before skating and even watch the schedule~ sometimes other youth sports are scheduled at odd times that can disrupt skater’s sleep patterns or other issues.

  • Even music lessons or other activities~ please make sure they are not super late at night or that you are not missing a lot of skating to do them.

  • As skater’s get older, things will come up that interfere with skating. Can you re-schedule skating or can you modify your personal plans? Can you move it to a different weekend? Sometimes you may have to make a choice between skating or another thing. Let the skater make the choice once they know the ramifications (good or bad) about each choice~ the skater has to be okay with it either way.
