Music

  • Music selections are typically made to help take the skater to the next level of their development, to show off their personality or to show off different sides of their personality and also to convey a story, character, emotion or theme. The music also has to fit the test and competition level of the skater.

  • I typically edit the music for skaters whose programs are not NQS. It is more cost-effective if I do it. For skaters who are competing NQS, have a long piece of music or who have a piece of music that is more complicated to edit, I send their music to a professional music editor.

  • The licensing of music in gained more attention in the past few years. Basically, if the skater is competing at the Sectional or higher level, you should make sure your skater’s music is licensed. You need to go to https://www.clicknclear.com/ and search the music database to see if your skater’s exact music is in the database. If it is, you don’t need to do anything else. If it isn’t, you will need to pay for the rights to use it. This takes about 90 days to gain the approval so make sure to plan accordingly. The cost varies, but in general, it’s about $30 to have the license to use the music for a year.
