Exiting A Coaching Relationships
Not all coaching relationships work out between a skater and a coach and their family. That happens, and here is how we handle this situation while maintaining ethics:
You may stop working with me at the end of your contract. When we begin discussions for next season planning meetings, you can simply send me an email that says you won’t be renewing your contract, so your last day of training time will be…
I do require a two week notice before the end of the contract so we can all plan accordingly. It is at my discretion if I continue to work with you over that two week period or not.
From there, I will send you an exit survey that is required by contract, and any fees must be paid by the end of the contract.
Families keep the following: any testing results that is in the Google Drive, your music and anything else that you have paid for exclusively. Your Google Drive and Tenzinga account will be deactivated upon receiving your exit email.
Items that are my intellectual property do not get shared with new coaches or with others. My intellectual property is often designated by my logo. Information in your Google Drive (except for your test papers or competition results) and in your Tenzinga account are my intellectual property and cannot be shared with others. You should not be sharing anything on my password protected pages on my website either.
Your new coach should be reaching out to check that your final payment is complete. It is unethical for them not to do so.
Upon exiting, keep things as respectful and as cordial as possible. If your skater continues to skate, you will run into me again at a competition or other skating event, so I prefer to keep things as respectful as possible.
Ending the Coaching Relationship Before the End of the Contract
If a family decides to end the coaching relationship before the end of the contract, the exit fee is that month’s tuition, plus 1.5 additional month’s tuition.
All fees must be paid before leaving and the exit survey must be completed.
All information about intellectual property remains the same as above.
If I End the Coaching Relationship
I can end a coaching relationship with a skater at any point in time. This is for my protection and the safety of other skaters and coaches.
I have usually only ended a relationship due to mental health concerns for the skater or if parents’ behavior was not acceptable.
