Boots & Blades
Boots and blades are purchased in the off or pre-season.
Skates should last about a year if you are a female not landing triple jumps. Guys may start going through skates every six months when they begin landing double-double jumps.
Unfortunately, young skaters with growing feet also may go through skates quickly.
Please anticipate when your skater needs new boots. Assume it will take 4-8 weeks to get any new boots or blades. Do not wait until the last minute~ it slows down skater’s momentum a lot when we they are skating in broken down boots or skates that hurt their feet too much.
I will give you recommendations for boots and blades, and there are skate technicians whose opinions we trust as well.
Boots are based upon the shape of the skater’s feet, how much support in a boot they need, how hard they land jumps, their weight and body type. We do NOT buy skates just because we want them/they are pretty~ they have to be right for YOU!
Blades~ we try to keep skater’s in the highest quality blades that are proportional to their weight. I generally have skaters start in Coronation Ace blades, then go to Pattern 99’s/Pattern 99 Revolutions, and then a Gold Seal/Gold Seal Revolution if the skater becomes strong enough to handle a Gold Seal.
More info on boots and blades will be in the resource page, but please contact me if you are having foot pain or any problems with your skates.
Skate Sharpenings
Skate sharpenings should be done regularly (about every 4-8 weeks) so skater’s do not lose jumps and have less adjustment time.
Go to the same skate sharpener for consistent results, and even book ahead so that you don’t forget about your next sharpening.
Never sharpen skates less than 2 weeks prior to a competition.
You will need to plan your sharpenings around your competitions.
Have your skates sharpened right away if your blade steps on cement.
